Existing Water Supply
3 Bore wells dug by Gram panchayat
24 public taps provided by panchayat
130 houses have own taps
48 acre old lake used for live stock
180 bore wells inside village for agricultural use
Some farmers also use the Shalmala River
Current Problems
8 of the hand pumps are dry
2 of the bore wells are already dry
One open well is dry
Water in 13 of the bore wells has been contaminated
Water table is now as low as 300 to 320 feet underground
Soil erosion due to sloping land
Nutrients in soil reduced by irrigation with contam1960 – 1988 total no. rice paddies exceeds crop lands
1969 – 1975 main crop produced: sugar
Current crop yield is much reduced
